Never thought I’d say this, diary, but my new boss Millie Drapewick is my new best friend. I’ve been working in sales since graduating college, and finding someone you connect with on a deep level is unheard of. My network of salespeople are hardened, shrewd, critical, cunning. Millie’s all those things, but her ability to charm is truly beyond. She’s genuine in her approach. Millie really seems to care. For lunch we went to Capistrano’s and she immediately ordered a glass of sparkling rosé. She made me get one, and then we went for a second and third round! We talked about everything. Decorating our apartments just right, the challenges of being a dog mom, how to deal with curly hair and dating four people at once! Well, I don’t have a lot of expertise on that, but Millie does. Haha! Well, I’ve got a big meeting in the morning. Good night for now.

The meeting went well, but I’m more excited for this weekend…. Millie and I are going to go shopping at her favorite secret sample sale! I’m so excited. She has the BEST fashion sense. It’s cool, it’s professional, but totally fun and all her own. Millie says she’s bringing a few friends too. Her circle is filled with chic women. I see them on Instagram: drinking at brunch, singing in their convertibles, celebrating fabulous weddings, from northern California to the south of France. Millie talks trash about a couple of them now and then, but I’m sure it’s just because they’re so close. Like sisterly tension. Anyway. I’m a little nervous to see how I fit in with her crew, but Millie will take care of me. I’m sure.

Diary, I’m in tears. Millie and her friends are evil bitches. We went to do spritzes before shopping and I thought everything was great. Then one of Millie’s friends said something about my sandals. She asked if I had just come from the beach. Like of course I didn’t come from the beach, it’s 11am! Then Millie LAUGHED WITH HER! And said I’d been selling seashells by the sea shore. Personally, I’m offended. I take sales very seriously and to have my boss mock me in front of her friends is humiliating. I didn’t want to go to the sale after that. But I finished my drink and decided to shrug it off and just go. I was trying on a navy blazer that looked SO GOOD on me, and Millie came over and told me not to buy it. She said it made my shoulders manly. But the second I put it back on the rack her other evil friend picked it up and put it on and Millie was gushing! She said it was a “perfect look for a professional summer lunch.” I wanted to cry, but I hung on. I shopped alone and bought one pair of shorts. We took separate Lyfts home and I barely held in my sobs while the driver talked to me about his babies and played Post Malone. Diary, I don’t know how to act at work tomorrow.

Wow!! Diary!! I was so surprised at my desk when I came in today. Millie had brought me a bottle of champagne and an invite to a members-only club downtown that only the coolest people can get into. They have a private Instagram and everything! It was like nothing had happened. No backstabbing, no mean comment, no stealing my blazer for her friend. Millie said she had so much fun on Sunday, and we have to keep hanging out. I was a little nervous, but I said yes. Then Millie got a call on one of her four cell phones and walked off. She’s such a complex person, but I’m sure once I get to know her better, things will be smooth sailing!
